Getting Your Veil Ready for the Wedding
Great news: your wedding veil has arrived! It's likely that there is some time between its arrival and your wedding day. Whether it’s weeks or months, you’ll want to store your veil properly for the most ease when you pull it out for the wedding. Let's discuss some helpful tips on how to store and prepare your wedding veil for your walk down the aisle.
Even if your veil is wrinkle free when it’s packed up, there are bound to be some creases made during shipment. First things first, when it arrives, unpack it and try it on! Now that you’ve had a great time imagining how you’ll look on the big day, it’s best to hang the veil with a hanger to let any wrinkles fall out naturally. For longer veils, I like to use a pant hanger to clip onto the comb to hold the weight and then drape the fabric over the hanger. This keeps the bottom from bunching up.
It may seem like a good idea to keep it stored in the box until the wedding, but you’ll want to keep it hanging with as little bunching as possible. Keep your veil in a cool dry place (like your closet) and protected by a garment bag. Garment bags come in varying lengths, try and find one that will give your veil the most room.
When it comes time to pull the veil out for the w3dding there may be some creases here and there. But don’t immediately reach for the iron, steaming the veil is the best option. Understandably not everyone owns a full-size steamer, but investing in a travel handheld steamer is a great option. Not only will it be great to have on hand for the wedding, but honestly it’s a great tool to have for travel, and even day-to-day. If you can’t get your hands on a steamer you can use your bathroom as your own personal steam room. Try hanging your veil in the bathroom while you take a hot shower, yay multitasking!
And lastly, if there are some stubborn wrinkles that just won't come out or details like lace that need a little more than steam, a gentle iron is an option when used with caution. Use a low temperature and place a piece of cotton fabric between the iron and the veil, a cloth napkin or a handkerchief will work. Be careful to work around any details that may be more delicate and sensitive to heat. To be on the safe side, I recommend dumping any water out of your iron before just to be sure there are no accidental water drips.
